Record year for Australian olive oil production
2008 will be another record year for Australian olive oil production. Prior to harvest the estimated potential was up to 15,000 tonnes, but the latest data as the 2008 harvest draws to a close suggests about 12,000 tonnes of olive oil. The reduction is due mainly to lower than expected crops in WA and parts of NSW, caused by a combination of biannual cropping and the ongoing effects of the drought. Production statistics are available here.
